ExcerptTo the Editor: We read with great interest the study recently published in Diabetologia by Jones et al that aimed to classify gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) subtypes based on pathophysiological traits by use of HOMA2-S and HOMA2-B [1]. The authors concluded that categorisation based on these parameters ‘does not provide useful diagnostic or prognostic information’ [1]. While this study is certainly interesting, a classification of GDM subtypes, based on pathophysiological mechanisms, has already been suggested and discussed by previous investigators [2]. …
